A&E is preparing to fasten its seatbelts for a movie about the bumpy life of movie legend Bette Davis.

The cable network is developing a film about the two-time Oscar winner (she was nominated nine other times), focusing on her life during the 1950s. She began the decade triumphantly with her role in "All About Eve," and was later involved in a scandal after falling in love with her co-star from the film, Gary Merrill, who was married at the time.

Abbe Raven, executive vice president and general manager of A&E, told reporters Wednesday (Jan. 8) at the TV Critics Association press tour that Susan Sarandon, an Academy Award winner herself, is in talks to play Davis.

The network has already signed some talent behind the camera. Alfred Uhry, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his play "Driving Miss Daisy" and an Oscar for his film adaptation of it, is writing the script. Stan Brooks and Greg Gugliotta ("Living with the Dead" ) will serve as producers.

A&E also announced Wednesday that it is importing a British spy series for premiere this summer. "MI5" (which aired as "Spooks" in the United Kingdom) follows a team of counter-terrorism agents in the British spy service.
